Karak chai is one of the UAE's most popular drinks: strong tea with milk, cardamom and sugar, drunk at all hours and sold at roadside cafés across the cities. It is generally said that workers from India and Pakistan brought its origins to the Gulf in the early oil decades, after which Emiratis adopted it and added their own flavours.
